How it works

ACE-031 (ramatercept) is a dimeric fusion of the extracellular domain of the activin receptor type IIB (ActRIIB) and the Fc region of human IgG1. It functions as a decoy receptor, binding myostatin (GDF-8), activin A, and GDF-11 in circulation before they can engage endogenous ActRIIB. Sequestering these negative regulators relieves their suppression of muscle growth; in animal research the result is increased muscle mass and effects on bone density.

Storage & handling+

Lyophilized: −20°C (−80°C for long-term), 24 months. Reconstitute with sterile water; for storage beyond 24 hours a carrier protein (e.g. 0.1% BSA) is recommended. Reconstituted: 2–8°C short-term; aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw, which degrades fusion proteins.

We ship in insulated parcels with phase-change cooling and a tamper-evident seal.

FAQs+
Is ACE-031 a peptide?+

No — it is a recombinant Fc-fusion protein (the ActRIIB extracellular domain fused to human IgG1 Fc), much larger than the peptides in the rest of the catalog. Handling and storage differ accordingly.

How does the ligand-trap mechanism work?+

ACE-031 binds myostatin and related TGF-β-family ligands in circulation, preventing them from activating endogenous ActRIIB. Removing that brake is what drives the muscle effects seen in animal models.

Why is the endotoxin spec <1.0 EU/mg rather than <0.5?+

Recombinant proteins expressed in mammalian cells carry a different purification profile than synthetic peptides. <1.0 EU/mg is the protein-line operating spec; the actual lot value is on the COA.

Why does ACE-031 need a carrier protein?+

Dilute fusion proteins can adsorb to vial surfaces and lose activity. A carrier such as 0.1% BSA is standard for storage beyond 24 hours in research settings.

Why isn't ACE-031 subscription-eligible?+

Research using ACE-031 is typically intermittent rather than continuous, so it ships as a one-time order at launch.

How is ACE-031 verified differently from the peptides?+

It runs on a protein panel — SDS-PAGE and anti-Fc Western for identity, SEC-HPLC for purity — rather than the LC-MS/HPLC panel used for synthetic peptides.
