How it works

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine, distinguished by an unusual γ-carboxyl peptide bond that resists standard peptidases. It is the most abundant intracellular thiol antioxidant. The reactive cysteine thiol neutralizes reactive oxygen species and, via glutathione peroxidase, reduces peroxides; the resulting oxidized dimer (GSSG) is recycled by glutathione reductase using NADPH. GSH is also central to phase-II detoxification through glutathione-S-transferase conjugation. Cellular GSH:GSSG ratio is a widely used index of redox status in research.

Storage & handling+

Lyophilized: −20°C, 24 months. Reconstituted: 2–8°C, use within 14 days — reduced glutathione oxidizes readily in solution. Reconstitute with sterile water; minimize air exposure and protect from light.

We ship in insulated parcels with phase-change cooling and a tamper-evident seal.

FAQs+
Why is glutathione in Dermal Research?+

Dermal Research collects compounds studied in skin and connective-tissue contexts. Alongside its systemic redox role, glutathione is studied for tyrosinase inhibition and melanogenesis, which places it here next to GHK-Cu.

Why does reduced glutathione have a short solution window?+

The reactive cysteine thiol that makes GSH an antioxidant also oxidizes readily to GSSG in air. Cold storage, minimal air exposure, and a 14-day window preserve the reduced form.

How is glutathione different from NAD+?+

Both are cellular cofactors, but distinct systems: NAD+ drives redox reactions and sirtuin signaling; glutathione is the primary thiol antioxidant and detoxification substrate. NADPH regenerates reduced glutathione, so the two systems are linked.

What's a typical reconstitution concentration?+

Investigator-dependent. A common preparation is 3 mL sterile water per 600mg vial, yielding 200 mg/mL.

How is the reduced form verified?+

A free-thiol assay confirms GSH content alongside HPLC identity and purity, with a third-party ISO-17025 repeat assay.

Is glutathione subscription-eligible?+

Yes. 15% off on a 60-day cycle once it returns to stock.
