How it works

IGF-1 LR3 is a recombinant analog of insulin-like growth factor 1 carrying two modifications: glutamic acid at position 3 replaced by arginine, and a 13-residue extension on the N-terminus. Both target the same problem — native IGF-1 is largely bound by IGF binding proteins in circulation, which limits the free fraction available to the receptor. The modifications sharply reduce IGFBP affinity, so a greater proportion stays unbound. Downstream, receptor engagement runs through the PI3K/Akt and MAPK pathways studied in proliferation and differentiation models.

Long R3: the R3 is the arginine-for-glutamate substitution at position 3, and Long refers to the 13-residue N-terminal extension. Both reduce binding-protein affinity.

Why does binding-protein affinity matter?+
