Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that selectively agonizes the ghrelin/GHS receptor (GHS-R1a) on anterior-pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating growth-hormone release. Its defining property is selectivity: unlike earlier growth-hormone-releasing peptides, published research reports little to no elevation of ACTH, cortisol, or prolactin at GH-releasing doses, producing a cleaner stimulus for studies isolating the GH axis.
