NAD+ is a coenzyme present in every living cell, central to redox reactions in glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. It is also a substrate for sirtuins, PARPs, and CD38 — enzymes implicated in DNA repair, gene expression regulation, and aging biology. Cellular NAD+ levels decline with age in mammalian tissue; restoring or supplementing NAD+ in research models has produced measurable effects on mitochondrial respiration and sirtuin-dependent transcription.
