How it works

SNAP-8 is an N-terminally acetylated octapeptide derived from the N-terminal sequence of SNAP-25, a component of the SNARE complex that mediates vesicle fusion. The design premise is competitive: the peptide mimics the SNAP-25 fragment and is studied for whether it can occupy that position in complex assembly, reducing fusion efficiency. It is an extension of the shorter hexapeptide argireline, with two additional residues intended to improve affinity. The dermal research context is expression-line formation, studied topically rather than systemically.

Storage & handling+

Lyophilized: −20°C, protected from light. Reconstituted: 2–8°C. The methionine residue is oxidation-sensitive — minimise headspace and air exposure.

FAQs+
How does SNAP-8 differ from argireline?+

Two residues longer. Both mimic the N-terminal end of SNAP-25; SNAP-8 extends the hexapeptide with the intent of improving affinity for the SNARE complex.

Why is SNAP-8 in Derma?+

Derma collects compounds studied in skin and connective-tissue contexts. SNAP-8's published research is dermal and topical rather than systemic.

Does it act on the same target as botulinum toxin?+

The same complex, by a different route. Botulinum toxin cleaves SNAP-25 enzymatically; SNAP-8 is studied as a competitive mimic of a SNAP-25 fragment. The mechanisms are not equivalent and the effect sizes in the literature are not comparable.

Any handling specifics?+

The methionine residue oxidises. Keep air exposure low on reconstitution, and treat an unexpected +16 Da in mass spec as oxidation rather than a sequence error.
