Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of the full 44-residue human growth-hormone-releasing hormone, carrying an N-terminal trans-3-hexenoic acid cap. The modification confers resistance to DPP-4 degradation, extending half-life relative to native GHRH while preserving GHRH-receptor agonism on pituitary somatotrophs. In clinical research it is best characterized for reductions in visceral adipose tissue driven through endogenous, pulsatile GH release.
